My best friend was the crow for Halloween the year this came out, and he's the coolest guy on the planet, so what else do you need to know? This is my kind of goth.

What are The Altars of Shaw, and why should you care? The quick answer to that is that the Altars of Shaw are a real life thing that inspired H.P. Lovecraft to write his iconic nightmare, "The Dunwich Horror". H.P. Lovecraft used to vacation in New Hampshire. From Sentinel Mountain in Tuftonboro, Lovecraft could see Mount Shaw over the lake. You might remember a Mt. Sentinel in "the Dunwich Horror". It had an ancient sacrificial table on it in the story. Sentimental Mountain does not possess such a feature in reality, but Mount Shaw is said to have such a sacrificial table, made of volcanic rock, and much like the table at American Stonehenge in Salem, NH. To understand the significance of volcanic rock, we have to go back ninety million years to the formation of the Ossipee Triangle; a massive volcano exploded which created the Ossipee Mountain range. Take a creepy old Hollywood mansion, a naïve young man and a pretty girl. Add an over-the-top orgy and some slimy, winged goblins who crawl out of toilets, and you have Ghoulies, a horrifying and hilarious ride into the darkest regions of hell! Conjured during a party thrown by the mansion's new owner, the hairy, fanged demons waste no time wreaking havoc on the scene - and declaring the unsuspecting owner their new lord and master One of my all time favorite movies. Those that think it's a gremlins rip off are very outdated and very wrong. There is 1 scene inspired no doubt by the success of gremlins (piano playing, general Mischievouness). Best of the series, Crowley said existence is pure joy. This Edition of Ghoulies is pure Joy.

The New Cult Classic Majesty

Dave Herrera is a study in contrasts. Many think they know him, but the real Dave can be an elusive figure. Many of the most important people in Daves life initially understood him as a drummer. But Dave was not just unlike any shimmering East Boston  hopeful as a percussionist  atthe dawn of the new millennium, he was unlike any drummer of his generation.  Dave plays what I call "lead drums". Dave expects the people he plays with to understand the time. He's not a watch, Dave don't keep time. He is a MUSICIAN, not a drummer.. the drums are the instrument he uses to express himself. And boy does he. FRANK ZAPPA had a reputation for perfection. No note out of place, absolutely  State of the art production. Not to mention his drummer Terry Bozzio and the song the black page, included on this album, being favorites of Mr Herreras. The bands sexually explicit and jokey asides are also very Dave. The mad Dr. Frankenberry devotes his life to conducting inhuman experiments in this satire on horror films. Nick Zedd created what he called "cinema of transgression " it boils down to high school theatre production sets, nudity? Why humor and an anarchic spirit. This one is so rare I rented the dvd from scarecrow video by mail. Worth it.

A teenage girl is found hanging from the rafters of a privately rented attic, pregnant and violated. Hot-headed Inspector Silvestri (Claudio Cassinelli, The Suspcious Death of a Minor) and rookie Assistant District Attorney Vittoria Stori (Giovanna Ralli, Cold Eyes of Fear) are assigned to the case, the scope of which grows substantially when they discover that the dead girl was part of a ring of underage prostitutes whose abusers occupy the highest echelons of Italian society. Meanwhile, a cleaver-wielding, motorcycle-riding killer roars through the streets of Brescia, determined to ensure that those involved take their secret to the grave. The perfect Giallo Movie elicits the same feeling as hearing a perfect album, finding a perfect strain, reading a perfect piece of writing, finding that perfect sandwich, that perfect someone.  This is one of those Giallos.
